Global Warming or Climate Change

The argument is whether the extreme weather we are witnessing can be linked to global warming. Many scientists take the view that this is the result of another historic climatic weather pattern. Many others take the position that the way we are treating our environment has a direct affect on the extreme weather and warming of our planet.

Either way you look at it Global Warming or Climatic Temperature Change, devastation is happening. It was just months ago when everyone was praising Suzanne Somers for her upbeat attitude after fire ravished her home in California. A more disastrous fire now rages in California. San Diego County is undergoing tremendous home and business devastation. The fire is rapidly spreading throughout Southern California. The president makes the usual disaster declaration, but the real alarming thought comes from the Governor. Governor Schwarzenegger says the fire may burn until it reaches the ocean. This means he believes it to be totally uncontrollable.

Whether it is Global Warming or Climate Change something drastic is happening with our weather. We now see storms with wind gust of 65 to 100 mph when there is no hurricane or tropical storm even forming. We have massive rainstorms causing flooding and beach erosion. New Orleans is reportedly waist deep in water with more rain expected. Texas has been a victim of this summers’ rainstorms which has ravished and damaged property across the south and mid-west states. Many tornadoes have touched down in the southern states and mid-western states causing major property damage and fatalities.

The temperatures have been so extreme in the south eastern states that they are witnessing the most dangerous drought in this great countries history. Governors are starting to impose water use restrictions. Lakes and reservoirs are at very low levels. With no rain relief being forecast in the immediate future, its time for the southeast to take a serious look at preparing for looming wildfires.

The northeast is witnessing unusually warm weather. Mid October and still witnessing summer like temperatures. I’ve been a resident of Brooklyn, NY for 24 years and never have I seen where there were days in October in which you would need air conditioning instead of heat. People are still walking around in summer attire, shorts and t-shirts. There has also been an unusual amount of rainfall here. Mostly the amazing occurrence in NY has been the touchdown of 2 tornadoes, 1 in Queens and the other In Brooklyn. The tornado in Brooklyn was accompanied by a massive thunderstorm which shutdown the transit system for hours and caused a major commuting nightmare. It took some people all day just to get to work.

With extreme weather raging all across this country maybe it’s time to take a serious non political not for profit look at whether this really is a manmade problem or just another historic climatic change. I’m not a scientist but with all the clear cutting of the woods and the polluting of the air I’m swayed toward the side of Global Warming.
