Reinstalling Values into Our Society

While it maybe true that guns alone can’t kill. It’s also becoming alarmingly obvious that these guns are getting into the wrong hands. The pressures of our societies on our youth, has not lent to them the need of being responsible in all they do. Kids are killing kids all over this nation, in schools on college campuses and wherever they gather to hang out. It’s now time to analyze and bring awareness to the public the immediate need of addressing this issue.

A few months ago this countries focus was on the Virginia Tech tragedy. This senseless unnecessary massacre was done by someone that really needed some type of intervention. Then we had the senseless robbery and killing of the teens going to Delaware State, in a Newark schoolyard. Weeks later there were most shootings, one at Delaware State and another at Memphis State. Yesterday a fourteen year old child shot teachers and classmates, and then committed suicide. Today on a tip form one teen, police near Philadelphia arrested another fourteen year child for plotting a Columbine type attack on another High School. This Teen had an arsenal of weapons; bombs, grenades, a 9mm semi automatic, air guns, and sumari swords.  Except for the heartless murderers in the Newark case, all the children had one thing in common. They all needed some time of crisis counseling or crisis intervention. In some of the cases, the authorities were warned but chose to ignore the warnings.

Tyler Peterson of Crandon Wisconsin, just twenty one years old, was a full-time Deputy Sheriff and part-time Crandon Police Officer. He was so distraught over a relationship gone bad that he killed six, before being killed himself. Now explain to me how someone at the tender age of twenty one, could be handed such responsibility. It’s obvious that he did not even have his own love life under control. He was overwhelmed by the added pressure of protecting society while trying to bring structure to his own life.

Mature adults have to take a step back and start to realize that all we do and say could bring about unintended consequences. For instance the NRA always speaks of their amendment right to bear arms. The argument is you have the right to protect yourself, your property, and your family. Well just think of this, if a child whose mind is not yet matured, could interpret that statement wrongly, and take it to advocating protecting you and your by any means. To them the right of not being disrespected would allow for shooting or killing. If they felt their girl had been disrespected, it would be a reason to kill. Their possessions or property are usually clothing or games. Well if you scuff their new Nikes or Timberlands that would be another reason to kill. Our youth are receiving mix messages from all types of genres. The new generations are being left to rear themselves, but that does not mean they have the maturity to accomplish it. We must begin to find away to stay in contact with our youth and their thought process. When warning signs are detected there needs to be immediate intervention. We have to once again become a society in touch with all.
